2012 Oscars ladies fashion roundup!

BEST DRESSED:

1. Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford. I have been struggling to find words to explain how much I love this look. The dress is stunning on her. The one shouldered number shines even though the attention of the dress is on the cape! THE CAPE! Who would have thought a white dress and cape could look so perfect? Her easy, tame hair, glowing skin, and gorgeous bracelet work so well together. Easily the red carpet star of the night.

2. Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shoji. Could she look more glamorous? The dress is incredibly flattering on her, and she looked so confident and stunning walking the red carpet. Her jewelry wasn’t too flashy, otherwise she could have easily been swamped by the sparkling dress and too much bling.

3. Kelly Osbourne in Badgley Mischka. Yes, it’s true, I may have a soft spot for this rebel, but I fell for her dress immediately. It’s figure hugging to the extreme, and she rocked it. Her look was gothic, but her lilac glam hair put a little bit of fun into the mix.

4. Mila Jovovich in Elie Saab. Bringing back the old Hollywood vamp, Mila smoldered her way down the red carpet. The dress had just the right amount of sparkle, and the beaded pattern and one strap made it anything but boring. Her retro hair and red lips completed the classic look.

5. Rooney Mara in Givenchy. What can I say? Rooney Mara plays the demure villain in this white, swan-like dress. The flowing bottom really lets her grace show, and the plunging neckline shows she can be a risk taker. Her stern black hair, blunt bangs and red lips let her intense beauty shine.

WORST DRESSED:
1. Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton. I immediately knew there was something wrong with this look. The dress is unflattering and would be on anyone. The hip ruffle doesn’t work and seems stuck on and out of place, while the bow brooch is an odd choice. Her pink lips and bubblegum clutch clash with the tomato soup colored dress.
2. Viola Davis in Vera Wang. I honestly do not know what to say about this dress. The bodice seems way too tight, I can’t tell if her chest is supposed to be popping out like that, and it looks like she got into a fight with a wildcat on the bottom. The emerald green dress did stand out amongst a sea of white, black, nude and gold, but not in a good way.
3. Meryl Streep in Lanvin. The top of the dress is fine, it works for Meryl. But the bottom? it looks like she wrapped a gold towel around her waist. The fabric looks like it’s weighing her down, which is unfortunate given her breezy hair bare neck choice!
4. Berenice Bejo in Elie Saab. It’s hard to believe the second Elie Saab look on the red carpet would be such a bust after the first (on the stunning Mila Jovovich). This dress ages Berenice terribly. The sleeves look too busy, and the beaded hemline clutter up the look as well. The color isn’t bad, but with her red hair, it seems a bit off when you see it immediately. I wished she would have channeled a little Peppy Miller for her Oscar look.
5. Sandra Bullock in Marchesa. The bottom of the dress is fine, it’s a classic stylish black number, but the top just ruins it! It’s ill fitting on her (and we know she has a great figure!), and the weird gold embroidery just doesn’t work around her hips and makes the dress look bulky.
HONORABLE MENTIONS:
1. Natalie Portman in Christian Dior. Man, people were railing on this look! I think the vintage number makes Natalie look sweet and classy, with the absolutely stunning diamond necklace making us remember what a movie star should look like. The strawberry look maybe could have gone a little higher fashion with a sleek bun instead of the casual hair style she opted for, but hey, I say she rocked the sweetheart look.
2. Jessica Chastain in Alexander McQueen. The gold embellished black dress lit up the carpet. The dazzling nominee turned heads with this McQueen number. I personally would have liked to see her sporting a delicate necklace to accentuate the gold embroidery, but she kept it simple enough to show off the dress.
3. Kristen Wiig in J Mendel. Keeping it casual and fun, Kristen looked beautiful in this ruffly nude number. The ruffles don’t overwhelm her, but do fall sort of flat on the drama department. What saved the outfit for me was her beachy hair, smoky eyes and black nails, putting a little drama into the look.
4. Penelope Cruz in Giorgio Armani. Grace Kelly! Everyone was saying it, and it’s true- the Spanish star channels the Princess in this dazzling blue gown. Her classic hair style and diamond earrings and necklace complete the look, and she really shines in it.
